A modern variation of nougat is Gianduja, which originated in Turin in the 19th century and is a combination of milk chocolate and roasted nut paste. Nougat is made from all types of nuts, but almonds, hazelnuts, and pistachios are most commonly used. It is used as a filling for pralines, chocolate bars, and candies, but also frequently as an ingredient in ice creams and confectionery products. However, nougat is most popular as a standalone delicacy and has long been one of the traditional Czech confections.
